BraTS-PEDs

BraTS-PEDs

Description

Pediatric central nervous system tumors are the leading cause of cancer-related death in children, with high-grade gliomas having a five-year survival rate below 20%, underscoring the need for better treatments and accurate response assessment. The BraTS-PEDs 2023 challenge, the first BraTS initiative focused on pediatric brain tumors, evaluated AI-based volumetric segmentation methods using multi-institutional MRI data and standardized metrics. Top-performing approaches combined models such as nnU-Net, Swin UNETR, and Auto3DSeg, and the challenge promoted collaboration between clinicians and AI researchers to accelerate clinical trials and improve pediatric brain tumor care.
